Chakra Meditation – A Beginner’s Guide

Meditation is an amazing way for your mind and body to calm down, rest and recover from all kinds of mental, physical and emotional stresses. Although it sounds simple, sitting still in one position and focusing all your thoughts in a single direction is a lot harder than you think. Hence, using guided meditation techniques to help you in your goal of improving focus and maintaining concentration is a much easier and more interesting way.

Out of these guided meditation techniques, Chakra meditation is quite popular and is an ancient practice that originated from India. It is designed to unlock the chakras or energy centers in the bodies for better overall well-being, and helps us feel more grounded, connected and peaceful.

If you want to understand more about the seven main chakras in our bodies, then read our article here. In this guide for beginners, you can explore the basics of chakra meditation and how to incorporate it into your daily life.

How to Get Ready for Chakra Meditation

Look for a quiet place in your home or surroundings that is calm and won’t disturb you. Make sure that you are dressed in clothes that are comfortable and loose, so you feel totally relaxed before beginning the meditation. It also helps to have something like a soft cushion or mat to make you comfier.

If you prefer to set a particular mood, you can light scented candles or dim the lights if it helps to keep the calm atmosphere in the room you’re in. Either you can do the chakra meditation in total silence or play soft music or nature sounds, depending on your choice. Just ensure that the music will relax you and not act as a distraction during the meditation.

Put all your other devices like phones on silent mode so they don’t disturb you. Sit cross-legged with your back straight and your hands on your knees – or lie down on the ground in a comfortable position.

Starting Chakra Meditation

Close your eyes and take many deep breaths, which will allow yourself to relax, and let go of any tension in your body. Focus your attention on the base of your spine, and picture a spinning wheel of red energy that becomes brighter with each breath you take. Keep taking deep breaths as you release tension from that area of your body, and then slowly move onto the other chakra centers one by one, while visualizing the corresponding colors for each chakra.

It’s important to take your time with each chakra center and not rush through the process, so every part of your body has ample time to let go of any negative energy and stresses, and let in positive energy and healing. Once you feel like you’re ready to finish, gradually bring your focus to the present and slowly open your eyes. Move your body a little bit and finally take a few moments to reflect on the chakra meditation you just did.

A great way to make full use of this is to keep a journal and write down any new thoughts or insights that came to you while meditating. Additionally, you can add affirmations while meditating, and ensure that you engage in chakra meditation consistently.
